The WEHI Stafford Fox Rare Cancer Program is a research initiative dedicated to improving understanding and treatment of rare cancers.
Based at the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research (WEHI), the program collects de-identified clinical information to support rare cancer research. Once there is sufficient data for a particular type of cancer, it can be analysed to improve our understanding of that cancer.
By bringing together information from across Australia, researchers can better understand rare cancers, identify trends, and generate evidence that may improve future patient care.
Patients referred through ARC Portal provide consent for their information to contribute to this research. Participation is voluntary and governed by strict ethical and privacy requirements.
The WEHI Stafford Fox Rare Cancer Program has been approved by the Melbourne Health Human Research and Ethics Committee (HREC/15/MH/396).
