The Australian Rare Cancer (ARC) Portal recently presented data at the Clinical Oncology Society of Australia’s Annual Scientific meeting assessing the impact of Portal reports sent to referring clinicians.
A total of 97 surveys were sent to referring clinicians to assess their experience with the report they received to enable improvements to the ARC Portal service. We achieved a response rate of 49.5% response. Over 90% of clinicians found the report timely, easy to understand and informative. With regards to patient management, 42% of reports impacted patient management with 36% impacted by referral to a molecular analysis or other diagnostic test, over 80% impacted with regard to their choice of surgical, radiotherapy or drug treatment and 14% impacted with regard to involvement in a clinical trial or research Programme including the WEHI Stafford Fox Rare Cancer Programme.
The ARC Portal is a free service to all Australian Clinicians treating rare cancers, and can assist with rare cancer literature reviews and provision or guidelines, access to expert opinions, molecular test advice, and clinical trial recommendations. Referrals for all rare cancers can be sent via the ARC Portal.
